I think that my foreshortening project was the most successful out of all of my projects, because of how I created my depth. I took my time thinking of ideas for that projects because I know that when I work too fast what I do is not well thought out or well done. I spent 30 minutes or so thinking of ideas, when I spotted a small spider on the floor, reminding me of a certain spider species that will 'wave' to humans. I quickly looked them up and found what I needed, a spider with his front legs outstretched towards the camera. I did some quick sketches and decided on the pose that I wanted my spider to be in. After that I named him and began to work in the final draft. The final was a lot more difficult than I imagined, because I had no idea how hard drawing fur with prismacolor could be, but I carried on. In the end I never finished the sky behind my spider, but.... I'm proud of it.
I think my artistic style is more anime-ish than most people in this class, but that allows me to dive into the physics of the surrounds more than the person themselves and i really like that. I don't think success is a construct that is easy to define, but if I have to define it as anyway it would be that as long as your style has changed and that you feel you've grown then you have succeeded. I find being an artist rewarding because I can take an idea, something that has no physical form, and give it one. Being an artist is also very calming for me and I use art to calm me in the midst of a panic attack. I have learned that people can express themselves through their art in so many different ways and in a way as you look at someones art, you look at a piece of them and I guess that's why they call it a 'piece.'
Over the course of the semester many things have happened, most of which never made their way into my art or my portfolio. I went through a lot trying to keep myself from failing classes this year and well I'm trying my hardest. The stress and the struggles weren't ever present in my work, and it really made my art not improve much throughout this class. It makes me sad to think about that but it's true... I didn't excel like I hoped I would.
I think my favorite medium to work with was white prismacolor on black paper. I was able to master this medium because of my abilities to shade fairly well. I took a long time to work with the prisma at home and see just how light and how dark I could make it and I used what I learned for the projects. I loved being able to put down the whites where I wanted them to be instead of placing the darks.
My least successful project is definitely the self portrait project. I didn't look like I thought I should and I really really hate the way that hat turned out. I would 100% get rid of that stupid hat and fix my mouth so I looked better.
